Following your arrival to Sri Lanka, our paradise island, to commence your Ramayana Tour, the representative will escort you to Bentota, a boutique town on the edge of the Western Province of Sri Lanka. Surrounded by colourful boutiques, and luscious seas, Bentota is the place for you to relax and unwind before you embark on your Ramayana Tour.

From Bentota, you will then venture on to Chilaw, where you will find the first pitstop of your Ramayana Tour: Munneswaram. Munneswaram temple is an important regional Hindu temple complex in Sri Lanka. It has been in existence at least since 1000 CE although myths surrounding the temple associate it with the popular Indian epic Ramayana, and its legendary hero-king Rama. Then you will visit the Manawari temple in Chilaw. According to the Ramayana story Sri Lanka proofs, Manavari is the first place where the lord Rama installed and prayed the Shiva lingam after the end of the war with king Ravana to liberate Sita. It is said to be the only lingam which has named after him other than the one in Rameshwaram, India. You will then venture onwards to the hill country of Sri Lanka. In Kandy, if time permits, you may be able to have a quick city tour, where you can visit the Temple of the Tooth Relic and Royal Botanical Gardens.

On Day 03, you will visit the part of Kandy that belongs to the Ramayana, which is on the way to Nuwara Eliya. Your first pitstop of the day will be the Sri Baktha Hanuman Kovil. This Hanuman Temple in Ramboda was constructed by Chinmaya Mission of Sri Lanka. Sri Bhakta Hanuman temple is dedicated to the God Hanuman and this is one of the important sites of Ramayana Tour in Sri Lanka. Visitors can witness the 18 feet Hanuman statue which is the tallest Hanuman statue in Sri Lanka established inside the Shri Bhakta Hanuman Temple in Ramboda. Then, you will venture to the Seetha Amman Kovil. This place is believed to be the site where Sita was held captive by Asur Samrat (Devil King) Ravana, and where she prayed daily for Rama to come and rescue her in the Hindu epic, Ramayana. On the rock face across the stream are circular depressions said to be the footprints of Lord Hanuman.

From Nuwara Eliya, you will journey to Bandarawela on Day 04, where you will visit the Divurumpola Temple. According to the Ramayana in Sri Lanka It is believed that Divurumpola temple is the place where Sita underwent the famous fire ordeal Agni Pariksha or “Agni” test in order to prove her chastity to God Rama after being rescued by him where she came unscathed and proved her innocence and purity. Further in, you also have a chance to visit the Gayathri Pedam. The Gayathri Cathedral also known as Sri-Lankatheeswarar Temple is the very first temple dedicated for Goddess Gayathri. Gayathri Siddhar chose this place because it was a spiritual revelation. It is believed that the Tri Moortis – Siva, Brahma and Vishnu, appeared here when prince Meganath also known as Indrajit, son of an ancient Sri Lankan King Ravana Performed Siva Thapas and Nikumbala Yagna.

From Bandarawela, we will journey to Ella, where you will visit the Ravana Falls and the Ravana Caves. The falls have been named after the legendary king Ravana, which is connected to the famous Indian epic, the Ramayana. According to legend, it is said that Ravana (who was the king of Sri Lanka at the time) had kidnapped princess Sita, and had hidden her in the caves behind this waterfall, now simply known as the Ravana Ella Cave. Therefore, this is one of the most important parts of the Ramayana Tour.

Once we reach Katharagama, you can visit the famed Katharagama Temple. Kataragama temple in Kataragama, Sri Lanka, is a temple complex dedicated to Buddhist guardian deity Kataragama deviyo and Hindu War God Murugan. It is one of the few religious sites in Sri Lanka that is venerated by the Buddhists, Hindus, Muslims and the Vedda people. Then we will move on to Ussangoda, where it is believed that during the time of Ramayana, King Ravana used this flat hard land to travel on his Pushpak Vimana from one place to another and also he used this place to park his Pushpak vimana. Sand is red and some stones are black and people believe that hanuman came and burnt the land since then the land turned red. Therefore Ussangoda is a strange coastal area which is one of the most famous. Next, we will venture to Rumassela in Galle. In the myth, King Ravana who abducted Princess Sita from India had imprisoned her in a cave in Rumassala Mountain. The next stop in the tour is the Seenigama Temple in Hikkaduwa. Seenigama Devalaya is a popular destination to those visiting the sinister “Devol Deviyo” who is known for the power of placing curses on adversaries. Finally, you will visit the Sri Anjaneyar Temple in Colombo, which is Sri Lanka’s first Hanuman temple.
