One of the many memorable things about landscapes is the intensity and variety of greens. These trains were created during the British colonial era to transport coffee from one place to another.

- Colombo to Galle

If you want to enjoy both the city and the countryside, book a train ticket from Colombo to Goal. From the capital of Sri Lanka, follow the coastal landscape where the Indian Ocean hits the railroad tracks. Enjoy the coastal breeze and watch your family surf surf while tasting a local snack box. As you approach the goal, you can catch a glimpse of traditional stilt fishermen with wooden sticks.

- Kandy to Badulla via Ella

The journey from Kandy to Badura takes about 7.5 hours and is often referred to as the most beautiful train journey in the world. Book a seat in a panoramic car and see the emerald hills, tea fields and colorful sari tea picks. Many travelers finish their trip in Ella, but it’s worth going to Badura. The dramatic final stages include the brick and stone nine-arch bridge, a 19th-century engineering wonder. The truck bends over the bridge before going around the Demodara Loop, creating a great photo opportunity. If you don’t go to the end, jump on Ella and hike to the point of view around the bridge.

The train from Kandy to Ella is a beautiful 7-hour trip through tea fields, jungles and mountains. As your journey continues, you will rise higher and higher to a lush plateau with wonderful tea fields and many beautiful hilltop villages and waterfalls.
